This was a great read, I clean my lettuce in the exact same way. I came across this article because i was looking into reassuring that i dont get sick from eating my garden lettuce. But i guess im doing it right.

A Salad spinner is a must! There is nothing worse than putting all this effort into creating a wonderful product only to have it with soggy, watered out salad dressing.

I think you are underestimating the value of your produce. When you are growing organically, the savings are substantial. I was in Walmart yesterday and noticed that they are charging $4 a tub for the amount of organic lettuce greens that we are consuming every day. So far this season, we have eaten between forty and fifty dollars worth of lettuce, and we've only been harvesting for not quite three weeks.

Thanks for your thoughts. One thing I love about having kids is the deep appreciation it has given me for the nutty things my parents put up with when I was a kid.

Until I got married, I'd never heard of a salad spinner. When my wife announced her need for one, I reacted much as I did when I first heard about Twitter: You're kidding, right?

I still think it's kind of silly, but I can remember the wet salads I suffered as a bachelor, and hours I spent drying lettuce before my wife showed me the light. About five seconds with a salad spinner, and salad greens are quite dry. During salad season, I use it at least four times a week... I have other kitchen gear I don't even use annually.

Random thoughts: my daughter once brought in a slug from the garden, saying, "Isn't it cute?" She was 3. Now she's 22, still gardens, but leaves the "cute" slugs outside.
I clean my lettuce and spinach much the same way - by soaking. I don't have a salad spinner, though. Is it worth it?
